Multi-Media Portals & Promotional Pricing Strategies

November 2003 (13 pages)
Over the last year wireless operators have engaged in a race to launch new multimedia online portals aimed at providing customers with "user friendly" access to a variety of content and applications. Many of the applications on offer were previously available to customers on a piecemeal basis but service uptake had been limited. Operators are hoping that by integrating and promoting these services under a common brand, the combined result will be more significant than could have been achieved with the individual parts.

Promotions of previous service offers typically centred around different types of technologies (e.g. WAP, GPRS, SMS, MMS, etc.) with little focus on applications. This made the packaging of services rather patchy and hard to understand from an end-user perspective.
