GPRS and MMS Roaming Tariffs

November 2003 (13 pages)
Operators and industry analysts often use GSM roaming as a benchmark to estimate the long-term potential of GPRS roaming services. If the GPRS revenue model were to mirror the GSM revenue model, we could expect roaming to eventually account for approximately 8% of total GPRS revenues. Many operators are optimistic that GPRS roaming will prove even more lucrative.

A number of wireless operators believe that GPRS roaming offers greater revenue generation potential than GSM. They argue that customers will be able to access a wider, richer range of services and applications with GPRS than GSM customers could. In particular, MMS is expected to be a significant factor in the uptake of GPRS roaming services, particularly in consumer segments.
