Vodacom South Africa: 'Call Sponsor'

Vodacom in South Africa has recently launched a cross billing solution which has initially targeted the consumer segment. Vodacom is the market leader in South Africa with a 61% share of the market. Prepay customers account for just over 80% of Vodacom's total customer base of approximately 8.5 million.

The Service Provider (SP) model dominates the South African market. SPs play a key role in attracting both prepay and contract customers to the network and are given plenty of freedom to formulate their own introductory offers. SPs may use part of the connection bonus to offer discounts to customers in the form of handset subsidies, discounted monthly fees (in the case of contract customers), or free starter kits (in the case of prepay customers).
